Itinerary
Our first day begins with an early departure from Kathmandu, leaving behind the busy streets as the road winds through green hills and river valleys. The journey follows the Trishuli River, offering changing landscapes of terraced farms, small villages, and distant mountain views. As we move further, the air feels fresher and quieter, giving a true sense of stepping into rural Nepal. Passing through local towns, we witness daily life, farmers working in fields and children walking to school. By afternoon, we reach Besisahar, a charming town that marks the gateway to the Annapurna region. The surroundings here are peaceful, with gentle hills and rivers setting the tone for this wonderful trek. It’s a relaxing evening to prepare for the adventure ahead.
The journey from Besisahar to Chame is an exciting off-road adventure through rugged terrain and deep valleys. The road follows the Marsyangdi River, crossing suspension bridges and passing through dense forests of pine and bamboo. Waterfalls cascade down rocky cliffs, creating a dramatic and refreshing atmosphere. As we gain elevation, the scenery becomes more alpine, and the first glimpses of snow-capped peaks begin to appear. Small settlements along the way offer insight into the local Gurung and Tibetan-influenced cultures. Upon arrival in Chame, the district headquarters, the crisp mountain air and surrounding peaks welcome us warmly. The magnificent view of Lamjung Himal glowing in the evening light is unforgettable.
The trek from Chame begins along a forested trail lined with tall pine trees and the soothing sound of the river below. We walk through narrow valleys where cliffs rise dramatically on both sides. As the trail opens up, the landscape transforms into wider plains with breathtaking mountain views. The iconic Paungda Danda rock face stands tall, creating a unique and striking backdrop. Passing through small settlements, we see traditional stone houses and prayer wheels spinning in the wind. The path gently leads us to Pisang, divided into lower and upper sections, each offering distinct perspectives of the mountains. The peaceful surroundings and crisp air make this a memorable day on the trail.
The trek to Manang offers one of the most scenic sections of this wonderful trek. The trail leads through dry, open landscapes with fewer trees and more rugged terrain. Along the way, ancient monasteries and colourful prayer flags reflect the deep spiritual culture of the region. We pass through Braga village, known for its historic monastery perched on a hilltop. The views of Annapurna II, Annapurna III, and Gangapurna are truly breathtaking. As we approach Manang, the valley widens, revealing vast alpine scenery. This vibrant village is surrounded by towering peaks and offers a perfect place to rest and explore.
This day is essential for adjusting to the higher environment while still enjoying meaningful exploration. We take a short hike to nearby viewpoints or glacial lakes, where the landscapes feel raw and untouched. The magnificent view of Gangapurna Glacier and the surrounding peaks is simply stunning. Walking through the village, we observe local traditions influenced by Tibetan culture. Small bakeries and teahouses provide a cosy place to relax and interact with fellow trekkers. This gradual adaptation helps prepare the body for the upcoming higher trials. It’s a peaceful yet important day that balances rest and gentle activity.
The journey continues as the landscape becomes more rugged and barren, with fewer trees and more open terrain. We walk past grazing yaks and small alpine pastures that give Yak Kharka its name. The trail gradually climbs, offering wide views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. The air feels thinner, and the silence of the high Himalayas becomes more noticeable. Along the way, we pass small teahouses that provide a warm and welcoming stop. The simplicity of the environment adds to the beauty of the experience. Reaching Yak Kharka, we settle into a peaceful setting surrounded by towering peaks.
The trekking from Yak Kharka to Thorong Phedi is short but significant as we prepare for the high pass crossing. The trail crosses rocky terrain and follows the base of steep cliffs. The environment feels remote, with dramatic mountain walls rising above us. We move steadily, conserving energy for the next day’s challenge. Thorong Phedi serves as the base camp for the pass and offers a unique high-altitude atmosphere. The surrounding views are raw and powerful, giving a sense of adventure and anticipation. It’s a quiet evening focused on rest and preparation.
This is the most challenging and rewarding day of the Journey. Starting early, we ascend toward Thorong La Pass, where the landscape is covered in snow and ice. The climb is steady, and the sense of achievement grows with every step. At the top, prayer flags flutter in the wind, marking one of the highest points of the trek. The magnificent view from the pass includes vast Himalayan ranges stretching endlessly. Descending toward Muktinath, the terrain changes to a dry, desert-like landscape. Muktinath is a sacred site, and its peaceful atmosphere adds a spiritual touch to the day.
From Muktinath, we begin a scenic drive through the Kali Gandaki Valley, known for its deep gorge. The route passes through dry landscapes that gradually transition into greener hills. Along the way, we see apple orchards, waterfalls, and traditional villages. The change in scenery is dramatic and refreshing after days in high alpine terrain. Tatopani is famous for its natural hot springs, offering a relaxing experience. The warm water soothes tired muscles and provides a perfect way to unwind. It’s a rejuvenating stop in the middle of this wonderful trek.
The trek to Ghorepani takes us through lush forests filled with rhododendron trees and vibrant greenery. The trail includes stone steps that wind through villages and terraced fields. We encounter friendly locals and experience the warm hospitality of the region. As we climb higher, the forest becomes denser and more colourful, especially during blooming seasons. The peaceful sound of birds and rustling leaves adds to the charm. Ghorepani is a lively village surrounded by forested hills and mountain views. The fresh air and scenic beauty make it a delightful stop.
Our last day of trekking begins early with a hike to Poon Hill for sunrise. The magnificent view of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges glowing in golden light is unforgettable. After enjoying the scenery, we descend through forests and villages toward Nayapul. The trail offers a mix of nature and local life, making the descent enjoyable. Reaching Nayapul marks the end of the trekking portion of this adventure. From there, we drive to Pokhara, a beautiful lakeside city. With Nepal Holiday Treks, this day feels like a perfect ending to a memorable journey.
The final leg of the Journey takes us back to Kathmandu, either by road or a short scenic flight. The drive offers one last look at rivers, hills, and rural life. If flying, the aerial views of the Himalayas provide a stunning farewell. Returning to the capital feels like stepping back into a different world after days in nature. The memories of mountains, villages, and trails stay fresh in our minds. This wonderful trek leaves a lasting impression of Nepal’s beauty and culture. It’s a fulfilling end to an unforgettable adventure.
