Itinerary
Our first day begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu through winding mountain roads toward the Annapurna region. Along the way, we pass terraced fields, small villages, and the bustling market town of Besisahar. The road offers glimpses of the majestic Annapurna range, setting the tone for this wonderful trek. Upon reaching Chame, we explore the small town, admire the traditional Mani walls, and meet locals whose warm smiles welcome us to the valley. The air is crisp, and the rhythm of village life is both calming and invigorating. Nepal Holiday Treks ensures that the journey is comfortable and informative, giving us a perfect start to the adventure.
After breakfast, the trek from Chame winds through pine forests and narrow trails alongside the Marshyangdi River. The magnificent view of the Himalayas unfolds gradually as we climb, with snow-capped peaks shimmering in the sunlight. Villages along the route offer insight into local culture, with prayer flags fluttering at every corner. Trekking to Dharapani / Koto, we cross wooden bridges and pass ancient Mani stones etched with sacred inscriptions. The trail alternates between gentle ascents and short climbs, providing both challenge and delight for our first trekking day. Evening arrives with a quiet village atmosphere and views of the surrounding ridges.
Our journey continues as we leave Koto behind, trekking deeper into the Nar Phu region. The path opens into wide valleys dotted with barley fields and scattered stone cottages. Along the way, we cross suspension bridges and stop to admire cascading waterfalls and the roaring Marshyangdi River. Trekking to Meta, we experience the remote lifestyle of highland communities and interact with local farmers and children. The surrounding peaks, including Annapurna II and Gangapurna, offer spectacular panoramic views. As evening falls, the village’s peaceful setting provides a serene retreat after a fulfilling day of walking.
Today’s trek leads us to the hidden gem of Phu Village, an ancient settlement steeped in Tibetan culture. The trail follows a high valley with stone walls and prayer wheels, revealing glimpses of snow-capped peaks that seem almost within reach. Trekking to Phu Village, we pass yak pastures and herder camps, immersing ourselves in the traditional mountain lifestyle. The village itself is a cluster of stone houses, monasteries, and mani walls, giving a sense of timelessness. We explore narrow lanes, meet local monks, and witness age-old rituals that define the cultural heritage of the region. The surrounding cliffs and towering peaks make this day visually spectacular.
After breakfast, we spend the day exploring Phu Village, giving our bodies time to adjust while discovering the region’s cultural treasures. Narrow alleys wind between ancient stone homes, and prayer flags flutter in the crisp mountain air. The monastery in the heart of the village offers insight into Buddhist practices and traditional artwork. Trekking around nearby hills, we encounter grazing yaks and panoramic vistas of the Annapurna and Manaslu ranges. This day allows us to observe local crafts, taste traditional dishes, and capture the serene atmosphere on camera. The quiet, high-altitude environment deepens our connection with the Himalayan landscape.
Our trek to Nar Village introduces us to a more rugged terrain, with rocky trails and high ridges guiding the way. The path weaves through alpine meadows, dotted with colourful wildflowers in spring and summer. Villagers welcome us with warm smiles, sharing stories about their traditions and seasonal festivals. The magnificent view of the Himalayas accompanies every step, including peaks like Tilicho and Annapurna IV. Arriving at Nar Village, we explore narrow streets and stone houses while enjoying the stillness of this remote settlement. Sunset casts golden hues on the surrounding cliffs, offering a truly magical experience.
This acclimatisation day in Nar allows us to immerse ourselves in the local culture and highland environment. We explore the ancient stone village, observing how families maintain their traditional lifestyle despite harsh conditions. The surrounding peaks provide a breathtaking backdrop for short hikes, with clear views of Kang La Pass and nearby glaciers. Our guides from Nepal Holiday Treks share insights into wildlife and geology unique to this region. Photography enthusiasts will find countless opportunities to capture the interplay of light, stone houses, and snow-covered summits. The day is peaceful, blending cultural exploration with high-altitude nature.
After breakfast, we embark on the challenging trek over Kang La Pass, a spectacular ridge connecting Nar Valley to Manang. The trail offers sweeping views of the Annapurna and Manaslu ranges, glaciers, and deep valleys below. Crossing the pass, we feel a sense of accomplishment and witness the raw beauty of the high Himalaya landscapes. Trekking down to Ngawal, the trail passes traditional herder settlements, prayer flags, and scattered mani stones. Ngawal village impresses with its fortified stone houses and monastery perched on a small ridge. Sunset bathes the peaks in warm tones, marking a rewarding end to this demanding day.
Trekking from Ngawal to Manang, we follow scenic trails through open valleys and alpine meadows. The path offers close-up views of glaciers and high peaks, including Gangapurna and Tilicho. Small villages with colourful mani walls provide insight into the local culture and lifestyle. As we approach Manang, the bustling town with guesthouses and local markets signals the end of the remote Nar Phu experience. The day is filled with stunning vistas, wildlife sightings, and the opportunity to rest in a comfortable Himalayan town. Evening brings vibrant sunset colours reflecting off the surrounding mountains, a perfect moment for reflection.
After the trek, we descend to Pokhara, the city of lakes and stunning mountain panoramas. The drive passes terraced hills, rivers, and small villages, offering a scenic farewell to the Himalayas. In Pokhara, we enjoy a relaxing evening along Phewa Lake, with reflections of Machapuchare and Annapurna peaks in the water.
