Overview

The Upper Mustang Trek is a once-in-a-lifetime journey into one of Nepal’s most mysterious and culturally preserved regions. Often referred to as the “Last Forbidden Kingdom,” Upper Mustang remained closed to foreign travelers until 1992, allowing it to retain its ancient Tibetan culture, traditions, and architecture. The trek offers a rare opportunity to explore a desert-like trans-Himalayan landscape that is dramatically different from the lush green trails found elsewhere in Nepal.

The trail leads you deep into the rain-shadow area of the Himalayas, following the windswept valleys of the Kali Gandaki River. The highlight of the trek is reaching Lo Manthang, the ancient capital of Mustang, where centuries-old monasteries, royal palaces, and traditional mud-brick houses reflect a timeless way of life. You will also visit unique sites such as the mysterious sky caves of Chhoser and sacred monasteries that hold deep spiritual significance.
